My script spends too much time searching around the page due to the needs of Adaptive Playback...is there some way to turn that off?

Yes, you can disable the Adaptive Playback feature with the following command in the script:

Adaptive OFF

After this the adaptive playback stays OFF until you turn it back ON with this command:

Adaptive ON

or until the end of the playback.

The default for this feature is ON, so the next playback will have it ON until the playback engine encounteres this directive.
