Applet Trouble

How to apply eValid to functional testing of web applications.

Applet Trouble

Postby unsigned » Mon Apr 21, 2008 1:56 pm

I would like to ask you for a specific question regarding the
e-valid software. Our application runs applets based on a
Thinlet technology. We set up your e-valid application to
keep track of the data within our application. But we are
unable to keep track of the data to be validated tough.

Do you have any hint about the way to fully validate the data
of the process itself we try to check?

I keep on going to test all features on the "record" menu
(like validate, save, etc), but we can't get the value of the
fields appearing on the screen.

Any idea or hint regarding this Thinlet module? Any plugin to
perform such test?

Thank in advance.

Thanks for posting.

The good news is that eValid hand record/play applets, and
yes, a Thinlet runs in the JRE so it is a real applet.

The bad news is that you have no object access to what's inside
an applet -- it is apparently a security issue with the JRE.

So you have to use evalid's Application Mode (see below), which
is reliable but more limited that the full DOM based modes. See:

http://www.e-Valid.com/Products/Documen ... .mode.html

Sorry, that's the best possible for an applet. It's a constraint
that arises from JRE technology, not any eValid limitation.

To validate values you'll need to use

Record > Validate > & Synchronize > Screen Rectangle

This will save a checksum for a selected area of the face
of the applet. As you can see, once the values are rendered
into a pixel image in the applet you're stuck...you really
can't retrieve them from the applet face.

However, if you use some of the DOM-commands you may be able
to validate the data that goes INTO the applet before it is
rendered. See:
