How can I record the set of times my multi-step playback takes? Is there some simple way of doing this?

The simplest way is to use the built-in event timer.

The ResetTimer command sets it to zero, and the ElapsedTime command reads the current value into the EventLog.

Or, you can use the SaveRecord command to output the current time value -- since the start of playback or since the last ResetTimer command -- into a local file. SaveRecord also has formatting options so you can make a very pretty local file to use after your tests run.
