Here is a page that describes Lotus SameTime7 Chat Record/Play Support that illustrates how this is done.
As you can see from this example, there are a lot of tricky things that have to be dealt with, e.g. security authentications, some absolute mouse clicks that have to go to the desktop, etc.
The example shows two users talking back and forth to each other. That should meet all of the usual requirements for sending and receiving chat. Let us know if this isn't clear enough.
