To place the monitoring machine that runs eValid

Where do you recommend to place the machine that runs eValid that does the monitoring?

This question comes up from time to time when we are installing playback agents in customers' networks.

The obvious solution, to have the playback agent run in the same machine as the application, seems to work OK. But there is the risk that any failure, even if not caused by eValid, will be blamed on eValid because it is the "foreigner" in the stack.

Having the playback agent run as a different user, and hence with different permissions, is one more step toward safety. At least there is the OS separation between users on that one machine to guarantee independence.

The next level would be to use a different Virtual Machine (VM) on the same hardware. This adds still one more layer of protection from interference.

Finally, you can put eValid agents on an entirely separate machine. This guarantees that any failure at the server will never be blamed on eValid.
