| Post subject: | Web Site Connection With A Firewall |
Hi, I will be working with HRA next week to create some monitors of their web sites. At that time I may have pertinent questions about the new features of V9. As of this moment there is a particular issue: the designated machine is behind a firewall and it is possible that they may not give it access to the internet, thus the licensing through your site connection could be difficult. Got any ideas about that, in case I can't get them to open the access? |

I'm happy to review this material about eValid licenses for you. (1) If you have an eValid EVAL/EVAUTO license, or if you are running from the Groundwork all-purpose COM license, there is a web authentication step and yes, you may have problems if you are running the eValid instance from inside a firewall. (2) A revenue license does NOT have that requirement. (3) The license supplied in the customer's license page for the HostName you supplied in the order is a revenue license: This type of license runs with the same power as the PC on which it is running. (4) So if you install eValid on their machine with the license we supplied you won't have any issues with a firewall that might limit access to our website for the necessary authentication. (5) We know you know Groundwork perfectly, and I hope you appreciate that we do know eValid well. We now offer script development services based on a customer-supplied use-case or test plan or even an outline of what's needed in a phone interview. Here is our offering for customers who want to have eValid technical experts create AJAX/Rich Internet Application (RIA) scripts: http://www.e-Valid.com/Services/Monitoring/full.service.html This might be useful to you if after the basic installation you need to create a script that uses some of the advanced features of eValid V9 that involve AJAX synchronization, DOM Index/Motion command sequences, etc. Best Regards, |

Hi, I applied the license from your customer site html (not the demo license, but the revenue license). Evalid proceeded to try to connect to the following ip address 168.143.165.241. It fails over to http://www.soft.com/eValid/Products/License/toppage.9.html with the message Unable to link to the web page you requested. As I had previously stated, your site is not accessible from behind the firewall. So, how can I get this revenue product to work? Thanks. |

Thanks for writing. Sorry to hear you're having trouble. From what you explain you don't have an installation problem; you have a settings problem. The default settings have eValid attempt to go to a page designed to help users understand how to apply evalid. That's the page you cite above. To change that setting: Open eValid Go to Settings > General Prefs > Paths Change Start Page from "Standard Launch Page" to "Standard Home Page" Press Save to save the new setting in your local machine registry Close and open eValid and confirm that it starts on the local home page. If you unable to get this working we can set up a web meeting and guide you through this. Let me know if you need this, and/or please confirm that the issue is resolved. Best Regards, |

OK, I did that. Start Page is now saved in the registry as "Standard Home Page". Now on starting eValid it wants to reach 207.46.193.254 with the same end result. Webex is not easy from here, due to firewall issues previously named. I may have better access from outside, I will let you know. |

Thanks for writing. Our website is hosted on 168.143.165.241, and if you ping that IP address you will see the response from e-valid.com. We have not heard of 207.46.193.254, and if you ping it neither has the DNS and the ping does not produce any response. If you actually point a browser to that IP address is comes up on a Microsoft Office page. That is not our page. What is the URL for the "home page" that is the one that shows up on that machine when you launch IE? That would be the one that eValid would be using (because as you may remember, eValid and IE share the same registry settings and favorites, etc.) The concensus here is that your isolated machine needs to have its IE browser home page set to something that is NOT asking the browser to go through a firewall. Why don't you set it to "about:blank"? Please confirm that this works yes/no so we can close this thread. Best Regards, |

The page is apparently a default for IE, into some Microsoft site. Changing it to a locally accessible page allows eValid to proceed normally. As this is a new machine I had expected it to go to one of the local pages and apparently there was not time for the customer to set that up. This case can be closed. Thanks. |

Thanks for the confirmation that the diagnosis we gave you once we had enough of the details was the correct one. We're glad you're on the air! Just as a gentle reminder, here is a good way to take advantage of our skill with eValid and deliver a really superb and sophisticated eValid playback script to the customer: http://www.e-Valid.com/Services/Monitoring/full.service.html Let me know if we can provide you with eValid script development services. Best Regards, |
