If all I want to do is the check the validity of links on ONE page is there a simple way to do this?

Just one page not a entire website.

Agreed, setting up a site analysis run can be daunting.

Here is the cookbook for a single page run.

It uses the Link Test Wizard and give you a test script that you can play whenever you want to repeat the checks!
