Hi.

Happy Thanksgiving day!

Can you tell me the difference between a monitoring playback and a regression test playback?

My boss wants to know the differences if any ...

Thanks

Fair question RachelQ!

(1) Monitoring

A monitoring test is usually a single eValid playback with the test engine settings adjusted to collect overall timing and performance data.

In monitoring you typically run the evalid test from the command line interface; the data is stored locally, and your monitoring reporting system (of these there are many) picks up the data.

Here is the main command line interface to eValid:

(2) Regression

A regression test, usually as part of a suite of such tests, is aimed to confirm a particular item of content, or to confirm a minimum response time.

Once a set of test -- a suite of tests, in fact -- is readied, you usually run it in the eV.Manager system, described here:

The bottom line: the two are ALMOST, but not quite, the same!
