General Testing

Postby tsoftware » Fri Dec 19, 2008 4:47 pm

I'm interested in a functional test product that also has the
capability of programmatic assertions, plus also has the ability to dynamically
supply criteria (e.g., date ranges, etc.).

As you guys know, this is tough even without using an Ajax-based UI
frameworks, such as GWT. I've used frameworks like HttpUnit in the past,
but while you can do anything you want, the con is the same because it
requires a developer's skillset.

Any docs/examples that you have would be very helpful in showing
what your product can do.

We're less interested in "load testing" (i.e., hundreds of browsers,
because our software products are web-based analytical applications
that typically have a low number of users but represent a lot of data.

So "performance" tracking is important (i.e., speed of page return,
recording of options selected), and "functional testing" would be #1.

Thanks for writing.

(1) I think what you mean by "assertions" is what we call validations: you
specify what you want to be true and eValid tells you if it's not
true...

* Here is the complete description of eValid's Validation modes:

(2) While eValid has programmability you don't need to be a programmer
to develop tests. But for advanced uses, you might look at the EPI:

* The eValid Programmatic Interface (EPI) is described in detail in this
this introductory page:

http://www.e-Valid.com/Products/Documen ... ction.html

(3) For AJAX applications, eValid is very strong because you can
synchronize and otherwise manipulate the DOM dynamically...

* Here is an example of how eValid works with the GWT objects:

http://www.e-Valid.com/Products/Documen ... .sink.html

* Here is an example of AJAX usage that shows how eValid's IndexMotion
commands are used to test the Google Gmail application (which is
notoriously difficult to test):
