How to test our web app on various mobile devices

Postby PetraG » Mon Sep 15, 2014 5:26 pm

Evening.

My company wants to test our web applications on a whole bunch of devices, but we don't want to buy one each of every single device on the market.

What do you folks recommend?

Thanks

Hey PetraG.

You've come to the right place because eValid can do what you want.

Here are the steps to follow:

(1) Figure out your list of devices and retrieve their User-Agent Strings (UASs) from the web. Here is a list that is probably too long -- you will need to make a selection:

http://useragentstring.com/pages/useragentstring.php

(2) Record and confirm your test script, doing the steps you need to perform to verify operation. The test script should save the screen image to a local file, using the "SaveWindow" or "SaveWindowFace" commands in eValid.

(3) Make a seriew of runs with batch-launched commands to eValid that do the following steps:

Set the UAS into the batch string.

Run the test.

(4) Compare the collected screen images. You can do this manually or automatically.

Here is a set of screenshots that show the eValid rencering of a response from www.amazon.com from 200+ different mobile devices:

As you can see, in some cases there is a LOT of variance between devices.
