Can eValid be used to invoke an app like PUTTY

Discussion of the technology underlying the eValid solution.

Can eValid be used to invoke an app like PUTTY

Postby BWebber » Tue Mar 15, 2016 8:11 am

Hi.

Can I invoke PUTTY from eValid?

Is it possible to make a run (record/playback) there?

What are the constraints and limits using eValid with PUTTY?

Thanks

Thanks for your question BWebber.

PuTTY is a great application that allows you get access to UNIX machines from Windows machines.

But therein lies the technical limitation.

PuTTY is a Windows application that handles HTTP/S communications and the screen that you see when you successfully log into a UNIX bos is a "terminal screen".

That is, it is 100% character based.

However, eValid can do some testing of PuTTY sessions using the internal Application Mode that uses absolute events.

If you are recording then all of the keyboard activity will be captured OK?

But when it comes to clicking on puTTY buttons you need to be aware of eValid's special modes.

Here is a page that describes what is available to you in recording and playback:

All of that said, in this case you are really only using eValid's desktop compatibility mode and if that is powerful enough, then you're set!
