XPATH is a method-oriented way of automatically focusing an action on a specific DOM element using a string match within the DOM, and possibly using a regular expression to match values in the DOM.

eValid has similar commands: IndexFindElement and IndexFindElementEX, both of which search the DOM for a matching string, and the latter of which accepts a regular expression as the search target.

In eValid use, these two commands are in the "structural testing" arena. That arena is defined roughly as the domain of recording-based script modification (editing) that seeks to strengthen a script by converting it to actions that don't depend specifically on page content which may vary.

XPATH is for programmers, but the structural commands like IndexFindElement and IndexFindElementEX in eValid are for testers, QA engineers, and programmers alike.
