Many software product developments require a substantial investment -- often over many years of development. That is certainly true for eValid.

It is natural, fair, and appropriate for a software development company to provide for protection of the accumulated intellectual property -- the "body of knowledge" -- that has evolved and accumulated as a result of our efforts.

Most software products employ a variety of means to protect that investment. These methods include combinations of copyright protection for the product code and for its documentation, use of special product licensing and anti-piracy technology as part of the product distribution, maintenance of proprietary "trade secret" information, and the use of patent protection.

The typical goal of such protections is usually twofold: (a) to prevent loss of technology to the competition, and (b) to assure that there can be fair and reasonable financial recovery based on the investments made.

The eValid product, the underlying technology, the documentation and the details of the specific product implementation are all protected by one or more of the above cited methods.

It is worth noting that eValid is a very complex product internally -- although it may appear very simple to the end user. That was actually one of the design criteria: pack the power and sophistication inside so users can concentrate on doing the work.

In eValid's case it has taken quite a long time to evolve and develop the product. Our protections are aimed at assuring us a fair and reasonable return on a very substantial multi-year development project.
